ADIOS NONINO: Michel Bonin plays Astor Piazzolla. With eight of the most original tangos by the Argentinian composer, it includes the album title "Adios Nonino' that he signed in 1958 with Yves Paul Martial Puech. Truly the 20th century ambassador of the genre, Señor Piazzolla found part of his inspiration from the melodic structure and romanticism of French chanson. This is an idiomatic expression I incorporate through my performance of popular and world music and, happily on this album with a very personal interpretation playing digital piano with bandoneon.

MICHEL BONIN PLAYS "DOWNTON ABBEY THE SUITE". This classic family stay-at-home TV series inspired me during COVID-19 to adapt its haunting theme in a slower lamento style. That is while reading the book "PANDEMIC 1918" by Catharine Arnold published in 2018. Together, they evoke in my mind the turning of years, and the uncertainty and undercurrents of tragedy that touched everyone’s lives during a period of transition, from the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, through the First World War, the 1918-19 Spanish-flue pandemic and into the turbulent 1920s.
